Description

The banana is the friut of a plant in the Musaceae family, with long pseudostems (up to 6-7 m) and large, broad leaves (up to 3 m long), which often appear fringed, as they are easily torn by the wind.

The fruits develop from a banana heart in a hanging cluster known as a bunch or stem, containing up to 20 bananas in each tier. A banana stem can weight between 30 and 40 kg.

The banana originated in Africa and was imported by Spanish colonists to Latin America, where it adapted well to the climate.
